Game-high 38 points as focal point

Brunson (shoulder) notched a game-high 38 points (14-22 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 7-9 FT), five rebounds, four assists and two steals across 45 minutes during Wednesday's 125-119 overtime victory over the 76ers.

Analysis

Brunson served as the focal point of New York's offense with Karl-Anthony Towns (thumb) sidelined Wednesday, delivering a game-high 38 points while playing through a shoulder issue to power the Knicks past the 76ers. Brunson has now played four games this season with Towns unavailable, averaging 32.5 points, 6.3 assists, 3.3 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 2.3 threes in 39.8 minutes during this period. With Towns' status in the dark for Friday's showdown with the Timberwolves, Brunson may have to continue doing the heavy lifting on offense for the Knicks in a tough matchup.

Cleared to play Wednesday

Brunson (shoulder) is available for Wednesday's game against the 76ers.

Analysis

Brunson has been upgraded from probable to available due to a shoulder injury Wednesday, and he should play his normal quota of minutes against Philadelphia. The superstar guard has averaged 27.8 points, 6.6 assists and 3.4 rebounds over his past five games.

January 14, 2025

Probable for Wednesday

Brunson (shoulder) has been listed as probable for Wednesday's game against the 76ers.

Analysis

Brunson has missed only one game for the Knicks of the season, and that doesn't appear to be changing Friday when New York faces Philadelphia. The superstar guard is coming off another impressive performance, finishing with 31 points and 11 assists in the loss to the Pistons on Monday.

Leads club in loss Monday

Brunson contributed 31 points (12-24 FG, 1-7 3Pt, 6-8 FT), 11 assists, four rebounds and one steal over 39 minutes during Monday's 124-119 loss to the Pistons.

Analysis

Brunson sustained a seemingly minor right shoulder injury during Sunday's win over the Bucks, though he was able to lead the Knicks in both scoring and assists during Monday's loss. However, he did struggle from beyond the arc against the Pistons, and over his last five appearances, he has shot only 33.3 percent from deep. On the bright side, the superstar recorded his eighth double-double of the season, and he also notched his 13th 30-plus-point game through 40 regular-season appearances. Moreover, Brunson is on pace to average a career-high mark in assists (7.6) nearly halfway through the season.

Green light to play vs. Detroit

Brunson (shoulder) is available for Monday's game against the Pistons, Ian Begley of SportsNet New York reports.

Analysis

Brunson injured his right shoulder early in the third quarter of Sunday's game against the Bucks, but he was able to return and finished with 44 points, six assists, five rebounds and one steal over 29 minutes. He was initially listed as questionable for the second leg of the Knicks' back-to-back set Monday, but Brunson has done enough throughout the day to be cleared to play. Since Jan. 1, he has averaged 27.2 points, 6.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.0 steals over 34.3 minutes per contest.

January 13, 2025

Iffy for Monday

Brunson is questionable for Monday's game against the Pistons with right shoulder soreness.

Analysis

In the process of putting up 44 points (16-26 FG, 5-10 3Pt, 7-8 FT), six assists, five rebounds and one steal across 29 minutes of Sunday's win over the Bucks, Brunson left the game early to get his shoulder looked at. The fact that he's been diagnosed with soreness has to be considered good news for New York. However, if he's unable to play in the second leg of this back-to-back set, the Knicks could turn to Miles McBride to hold down the fort at point guard.

Ends with 44 points, tweaks shoulder

Brunson finished Sunday's 140-106 win over the Bucks with 44 points (16-26 FG, 5-10 3Pt, 7-8 FT), six assists, five rebounds and one steal across 29 minutes.

Analysis

Brunson got off to a hot start early with 23 points in the first quarter, marking a career-high scoring haul for any period. He ended up clearing the 40-point threshold for the second time this season, despite sustaining an apparent right shoulder injury on a drive to the basket early in the third quarter. He checked back into the contest with 3:34 remaining in the quarter, then stayed in the game for the first six minutes of the fourth before being lifted with 5:48 remaining while the Knicks held a 28-point lead. Brunson then left the bench and headed to the locker room after checking out of the contest, presumably to receive additional maintenance for his shoulder. According to James L. Edwards III of The Athletic, Brunson's shoulder issue doesn't appear to be anything serious, though his status will still be worthy of monitoring heading into the second leg of a back-to-back set Monday versus the Pistons.

Returns to Sunday's game

Brunson (shoulder) has returned to Sunday's game against the Bucks, Eric Nehm of The Athletic reports.

Analysis

Brunson briefly went to the locker room early in the third quarter of Sunday's game due to an apparent right shoulder injury. The injury doesn't appear to be severe, however, as he checked back in at the 3:34 mark in the same frame.

January 12, 2025

Heads to locker room Sunday

Brunson exited to the locker room after sustaining an apparent right shoulder injury during the third quarter of Sunday's game against the Bucks, Eric Nehm of The Athletic reports.

Analysis

Brunson grabbed at his shoulder after a drive to the basket, and he briefly stayed down before heading back to the locker room with 9:42 left in the third. If the superstar point guard is unable to return, Cameron Payne and Miles McBride should pick up the slack the rest of the way.

January 11, 2025

Scores 27 points in loss

Brunson amassed 27 points (7-15 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 12-12 FT), one rebound and five assists in 33 minutes during Friday's 126-101 loss to the Thunder.

Analysis

Brunson posted a solid scoring line, but he didn't contribute much in other categories as the Knicks suffered a heavy 25-point loss. The star floor general at least reached the 22-point mark for the fourth time over his last five outings, but his efficiency woes are beginning to look concerning. Over that five-game stretch, Brunson is shooting just 18.8 percent from three-point range while averaging 2.2 turnovers per game.
