Dominates Pacers with 35 points

Mitchell posted a game-high 35 points (12-23 FG, 3-9 3Pt, 8-8 FT), nine rebounds, three assists and two steals across 31 minutes during Tuesday's 127-117 victory over Indiana.

Analysis

Mitchell was dominant for the Cavaliers on Tuesday, scoring a game-high 35 points that represented his highest scoring output since a Dec. 27 win over Denver. Over his last 11 appearances, the 28-year-old superstar guard has averaged 22.6 points, 4.5 assists, 4.0 rebounds, 1.1 steals and 3.7 three-pointers while shooting 41.8 percent from deep. Mitchell draws a very difficult assignment during Thursday's showdown in Oklahoma City against the Thunder, who rank first in the league in defensive efficiency rating (102.9).

Mini-slump continues

Mitchell closed with 19 points (7-17 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 2-2 FT), three rebounds, one assist and two steals in 31 minutes during Sunday's 108-93 loss to the Pacers.

Analysis

After getting a breather on the second night of a back-to-back Thursday, Mitchell returned to the lineup but still had trouble getting going. The All-Star guard has failed to score at least 20 points in four straight appearances, his longest such streak of the season, and he's averaged just 16.0 points, 3.8 assists, 3.0 boards, 2.5 threes and 1.0 steals during that span while shooting 38.3 percent from the floor. Mitchell voluntarily gave up some usage this season so that the Cavs could put a more balanced offense on the court, and while that plan has worked brilliantly so far for the 33-5 club, he may need to get selfish for a game or two to jump-start his offense.

Available for Sunday

Mitchell (rest) will be available for Sunday's game against the Pacers.

Analysis

Mitchell missed Thursday's game versus Toronto for rest purposes on the second leg of a back-to-back set, but he was always expected to return for Sunday's game. He's had a tough January so far, posting averages of 15.0 points, 4.7 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 2.3 three-pointers over his last three outings.

Sitting out against Toronto

Mitchell won't play in Thursday's game versus the Raptors due to rest purposes.

Analysis

After logging 35 minutes against the Thunder on Wednesday, Mitchell will sit out the second leg of Cleveland's back-to-back Thursday. Caris LeVert and Max Strus will likely receive increased playing time in his absence. Mitchell's next chance to suit up is Sunday's matchup with Indiana.

Poor shooting display

Mitchell had 11 points (3-16 FG, 2-7 3Pt, 3-4 FT), six rebounds and four assists across 35 minutes during Wednesday's 129-122 victory over the Thunder.

Analysis

Mitchell surpassed his season-worst scoring output by just one point Wednesday, and this was one of his worst outings of the campaign from an efficiency perspective. Fantasy managers shouldn't be overly worried due to Mitchell's woeful outing, though, as he's expected to remain the go-to option for the Cavaliers on the offensive end of the court as long as he remains healthy.
